It’s time to have a big ask

God wants us to have a “big ask”.  He wants us to venture out of our safety zone and dare ask Him for things that are beyond our reach.

A “big ask” is taking a risk to believe God can do more than we could ever think of.  However, before I get all Tony Robbins on you, lets remember that the focus is on His kingdom not ours.

I have heard many teachings that echo this same theme, but the focus has been: “You can do whatever you put your mind to.  You can succeed in your dreams.”   Is this wrong?  No!  However, check out the focus: YOU can do whatever YOU put YOUR mind to.  YOU can succeed in YOUR dreams.   That’s a lot of “you”.   Even though these statements are true, especially as a child of God who can “do all things through Him who strengthens me”.  But if life is all about me finding out how much I can do, then I’ve missed the point.

It was that exact focus that distracted me and eventually led to some years of living in “no man’s land” to slap me back to reality.  You don’t have to tell me to dream.  You don’t have to tell me to have a “big ask”.  What I need is to remember is to align all my ambitions to the cross of Christ and God’s kingdom.

However, I’m finding that it’s more common for women to shy away in fear.  What woman really wants to have a “big ask” anyways? – a brave one.  A woman who is secure in Who’s she is and has finally “got it” that it has very little to do with her own greatness and more to do with the greatness of her God.

God once said to His Son, Jesus; “Ask of Me and I will give the nations to you as an inheiritance”. (Psalm 2:8)    Wow, now there’s a BIG ASK!   Not a street or a city but a whole nation??  And not just one nation but NATIONS!

I know what you’re thinking; “That’s God’s Son, so of course He can have a big ask like that’.    Really?…..

The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. (Colossians 1:27)

Do you realize what that means?  It means that God is willing to give all He gave to His Son, to those who are passionate for His kingdom.   That means we can have a big ask too!

Who would have the audacity to ask God for a nation?  A couple of nations?  A whole generation?  Let’s get a little less ambitious; how many of us are even afraid of venturing into a big ask for the small dreams in our hearts of what we’d love to do for His glory??

Let’s get some perspective here.  God WANTS you and I to ask for big things.  If you CAN ask for a nation to be His….. if you CAN ask God to save a generation; don’t you think He can also answer the cries of your heart?   If the desires of your heart will impact this world for Him, don’t you think He’s cheering for you?  Don’t you think He’s saying; “Go for it??”

It’s time to become brave again.  It’s time to dare to have a big ask again.

I think you’ll be surprised with God’s response….

It’s one thing to preach faith, its entirely different to live faith. Faith in the heart must be accompanied by feet that move toward it. – Mike Love
